Lumps and Bumps on your Feet

In the Colorado mountains, there are plenty of activities that require tight fitting shoe gear. This often causes patients to notice lumps and bumps on their feet that may have otherwise not been painful. Ski boots or cycling shoes are often made more uncomfortable by the presence of these masses that are not supposed to be there.

Lumps and bumps can be soft tissue or bone and can range from minor to major issues to fix. Simple skin lesions can often be shaved down in the office and prevented with proper foot care while more complicated lesions may require advanced imaging like MRIs or even biopsy and excision.

Most commonly, these lesions are benign and will not present a problem long term, but they can remain painful if not treated. Every once in a while, these lumps and bumps can be malignant or cancerous. We know the signs to get you into see a specialist should it be a more aggressive lesion. This is the exception though; most of the time these are caused by everyday problems like bunions, ganglion cysts, tailor’s bunions, or lipomas.
